Professional Vita for Aaron Fowler:

Aaron Fowler is a native Kansan. He grew up in Topeka and moved to Wichita, Kansas to attend Friends University. He received a degree in Music Education and then went to Wichita State University where he received a Masters in Music Education (Conducting). Aaron began teaching music following graduation in 1984 and has taught at Colvin Elementary (1984-'86), Wilbur Middle School (1986-90), Brooks Middle School (1990-'92) and Stearman Elementary (1992-'95), all in Wichita.

In 1990, Aaron, his wife and their three sons moved to near-northeast Wichita, the lowest socio-economic area of the city, in order to live and work with Friends of Jesus Community. He has volunteered with this ministry for six years, leading weekly middle and high school youth groups. The focus of these groups is leadership, life skill and spiritual development, which gives Aaron the opportunity to listen and work with at-risk children. Aaron's experiences with the people of the neighborhood are the substance of Roomdad Productions. He combines both music and the insights he has gained in the neighborhood as he shares an engaging and zestful program with kids. The Roomdad curriculum uses folk music, storytelling, and discussion all designed around helping children and youth deal with the daily struggles of life.

Aaron's music career includes 11 years of public school education with memberships in MENC (Music Education National Conference) and ACDA (American Choral Directors Association). Aaron has trained with the Kansas School Team Training for Substance Abuse Training. He now serves through Roomdad Productions as consultant with several school across south-central Kansas on issues of self-esteem, goal setting and leadership development in young people. Aaron also writes articles on urban issues for several Christian publications and is a member of CCDA (Christian Community Development Association). He has also been guest lecturer at Friends University on the subject of Equity and Pluralism in Education in the HRM masters program. In March of 1995, Aaron and his wife were the 1995 Staley Distinguished Christian Lecture Series speakers at Earlham College in Indiana.
